Cheryl Blake is a stop motion animator based in Manchester, UK.
With a background in music education and performing as a drummer and flautist, Cheryl turned to animation during the lockdown and quickly discovered a passion for animation.
Gravitating towards stop motion animation, she studied with Aardman Academy before undertaking an MA in Animation at University of Salford, Manchester. Using the year to research the use of different materials in stop motion animation, she became particularly drawn to abstract animation on the multiplane. She has since held training roles at Aardman via Screenskills and continues to work on projects.
Seaglass is her MA short film, taking on the role of Director/Animator.The film was selected for 15 festivals including winning the ray harryhausen award for best student film Animation in 2024. She then went on to direct and animated a music video for coruja jones called little space, utilising a mix of live film and paper cut stop motion animation.
cheryl aims to combine her love of music, animation, nature, storytelling and abstract effects into her projects.
